Kilted Mile
THE GAMES : Kilted Mile
As mentioned previously in the Hisory of The Games, Scotsmen running in a race dates back to the reign of King Malcom III who ruled Scotland during the 11th century. At that time the foot race started at Braemar Castle and finished at the grim Creag Choinnick.
The usual image a Highland Games that comes to mind is that of a large man in a kilt, as broad as he is tall, supporting in his cupped hands something that resembles a utility pole that he flips end over end. But some Scots are built more like 'greyhounds' than 'draft horses' and love the opportunity to participate in the 'Light Athletics' of the Highland Games.
That’s where this race comes in! The Kilted Mile is, quite simply, a mile run in a kilt. The weight of the kilt adds an additional degree of challenge to this foot race. The winner is the individual crossing the finish line first. It is probably the simplest, and least complicated, event that can be organized for the Highland Games!
You must wear a kilt!. Bagpipers will provide motivational music along the course.
