THE KWAZULU-NATAL GAMES:

Today, Highland Games events are held throughout the year in countries around the world. South Africa has held it's own fair share of Gatherings - the Games at Fort Nottingham (also known as 'The Howzit Games'), now five years old, attracts some 6,000 spectators.

Now it's time for the 2011 annual Gathering. These Games aim to set a high standard of entertainment for the crowds, with, amongst others, a display of horse and carriage driving, pipe bands, Highland dancing, a Celtic band, as well as the traditional sporting such as tossing the caber, tug of war, and 'carrying the weight' (a 72kg rock!).
This year sees the advent of a fully-fledged Highlander Strongman Competition – with the winner going off to compete in the Highlander World champs in Scotland (August 2011).

Traditional Scottish dishes such as Haggis, Black Pudding and Square Sausage will be available, as well as less daunting fare for the more sensitive diners.

A new convenience is the introduction of shuttle buses to collect passengers from the parking area and bring them directly to the gates.

Entry is R50 for adults, and R20 for children.
