No Highland Games is complete with the haunting music of the bagpipe. It adds to the atmosphere and urges the athletes onto their miraculous feats of sportsmanship...flinging, tossing, throwing and pushing, all to the tune of 'Scotland The Brave'...
A typical Highland Games will usually have a pipe band contest consiting of pipers and drummers facing off in a march of music, tartan, pomp and ceremony.
The World Pipe Band Championships are held every August in Glasgow and attended by many countries.
Besides providing the theme tune for Highland Games, the bagpipe has also had it's influence on modern day music including Paul McCartney's Mull of Kintyre, AC/DC's It's a long way to the top and Korn's Shoots and Ladders.
