Weight Walk
THE GAMES : Weight Walk
This event sees yet another Highland Games event involving 'heavy athletics'! Competitors, men and woman, usually throw a range of weights around, the heaviest being about 25kg, but in this version, there are no flying objects, requiring only brute strength and endurance.
Not an original Highland game, but borrowed from the 'Farmer's Games', this one is a power contest, and more of a strongman event than anything else. Each clan member carries the heavy items - cabers / weights / stones etc. - around or through a set track.
Also known as 'The Farmer's Walk', the athlete usually picks up two weights, each weighing up to 68kg (150 pounds), and walks around series of pylons. The winner is the athlete who walks the farthest.
Our version has the competitor pick up a single 75kg (165 pound) stone or weight.
